Rail Incident Investigation Training

Our IOSH Approved 4-day Rail Incident Investigation training course draws on the experience and skills gained through the MSc degree in Safety and Accident Investigation (Rail Transport) and ensures a high level of skills for all learners.

The course focuses on immersive training in an accident scenario, that sets it apart from other incident investigation training courses.

We teach effective application of established analysis tools for determining root cause, that are not usually taught in mainstream investigation courses.

Training can be provided at our own facility or at our clients own premises or sites. The training course can be based on specific rail industry scenarios that we have developed, or they can be tailored to suit your business or specific industry. All our courses are available to companies, groups and individuals and can be booked online.

Day 1 - Theory

Today we will cover the theory around the investigation process, including the statutory requirements and best practice in incident investigations. We will introduce you to some classroom exercises, where you will learn to understand the sequence of the investigation and the analysis methods which will be taught and used throughout the course.

Day 2 - Theory

Today we will follow up on what we covered in Day 1 and continue to work on a classroom based investigation, where you will be given the opportunity to apply the analysis methods that we teach, and understand how you use your analysis to write your corrective actions. This will be done using classroom activities, giving you the opportunity to work in teams while practicing your new skills.

Day 3 - Immersive training

Today is where we get fully immersive, leaving the classroom behind and moving into the practical, hands on session for the accident scenario that you will now be investigating. This is your opportunity to practice all that you have learned in the previous two days, and get into the character of the investigator. You will work as a team, and apply all of your new skills to conduct your investigation and have the opportunity to interview the people involved in the accident.

Day 4 - Immersive training

Today brings everything together, where you will build on what you have learned throughout the course, and finalise your analysis and investigation findings. Once you and your team have given your final incident overview, the course will conclude with your formal assessment.
