The course is run over 4 consecutive days. Classroom hours will be 7hrs a day, plus lunch and refreshment breaks.
Yes! We offer an optional day 5 at the end of the investigation course, where we focus on writing an investigation report based on the scenario that you have just investigated. This will help you to gain new, or improve your existing report writing skills. This can also be bespoke to your business investigation report template. Contact us here if you would like to find out more about this option or read our article to see why it’s important to write good investigation reports and what we will cover in the training.
This course is aimed at anyone who is or may be required to conduct accident or incident investigations in their workplace.
The course will provide you with the tools for completing all levels of investigation, e.g., low level local investigations or more significant formal investigations, depending on the severity of the accident or incident that you may be required to investigate.
You should have a general interest in health and safety to attend this training course. You will be required to bring a laptop with you. Whilst some of the course materials will be provided in printed format, some materials will be provided on a USB.
For the rail incident investigation course, full orange hi-visibility PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) trousers and jacket/vest, safety boots with ankle support, hard hat and light eyewear will be required for the practical site visit on day 3 of the course. Clothing should be suitable for the weather conditions at the time of the training.
Please note, if you choose to attend the rail specific training course but are not familiar with the railway, thats not a problem! Whilst we do run a rail specific course, you do not have to work in the rail industry to attend the training. What you will learn can be transferred to any industry and the analysis methods that we teach are not industry specific and can be taken into any incident investigation, no matter what industry you work in. We will provide you with all the information that you need that will explain any terminology that you may not be familiar with.
If your organisation is interested in having a course that is bespoke for the industry that you work in, you can contact us here to find out how we can develop a course that better suits your organisations requirements. Alternatively, we do also have a non-rail IOSH approved incident investigation training course too.
The IOSH Approved Rail Incident Investigation course covers both theory and practical elements throughout. This ensures a very immersive and interactive training course.
Presentation slides, videos, practical activities, role play and team exercises are utilised throughout the training. You will also be required to go into a simulated accident scenario, within a controlled environment outdoors, for the practical element of the training. This is where you will conduct part of your investigation, with the activity being led by one of our trainers.
For the IOSH Approved Incident Investigation course, learners will be required to complete an incident investigation summary activity following the practical incident investigation, to demonstrate understanding of the investigation methodology, use of a causal analysis tool and completion of a barrier analysis.
Learners will also be required to complete an individual closed book final assessment at the end of day 4.
Upon successful completion of the course, learners will be issued with an IOSH certificate.
Our trainers are highly experienced in their field and come with a wealth of knowledge and qualifications. Please check out our about us page, to find out more.
